Last weekend (18-20 November) 3 teams of scouts went to the Green Beret competition at Tolmes. This is my third Green Beret and it was my favourite by far as the was NO RAIN (which is a miracle in itself)!
I was in the competing team with Charlie, Jack W, Jack T, Liam and Francesca the team leader. Our team name was zebra (as chosen by me) which probably wasn't the most popular of names but at least it wasn't my first choice, team Tapir. On the saturday we had orienteering first. We got 10 posts out of 15, but had to run back as we only had 5 minutes and we were on the other side of the forest. Then we had to do some day bases (activities scored on teamwork and ability) We then had the assault course which was mostly running and following coloured paper trails but with some challenges as well. The best challenge was the river run where you had to run across the river on floating crates and planks without falling in. Unfotunately is was easier than it looked so no-one fell in. After that we had to do more day bases. My favourite base was where we had buckets of water and we had to fill up jugs with water, run to the pole and fill up the pole to get the ping pong ball. The only catch was there were holes in the jug and the pole. We epically failed and got no where near the top and all ended up getting soaked.
After dinner we had night bases which were similar to the day ones but some different ones and no water activities. On Sunday we packed up and there was the awards ceremony. We got our results, 70th out of 134 teams. We came 35th on just the day bases which was also good.
Overall I had a great time and I will be coming again next year if the weather forecast is good!
