What better way to spend a chilly but sunny autumn morning! Today we have been up to Weston Woods to help the Friends of Baldock Green Spaces and The Countryside Management Service clearing an area of woodland to help open up parts of the wood so new species can develop. The scouts cut down and sawed up trees which they then helped lay to form a dead hedge. The dead hedge forms shelter and a safe passageway for smaller animals and insects so they are able to move around safe from predators.
The scouts have been working towards their Forester Badge and some of the skills they have learnt today will be used towards their badge requirements for both this and their Global Conservation Badge. They have also earnt service hours towards their Community Challenge. We're back helping again in a different local area in December when they will be learning other new skills. Photos of them all hard at work are on the Photos page.
